The events are free and open to  the public.  For more information, send an email to <a href=\"mailto:alloccok@wcsu.edu\">alloccok@wcsu.edu<\/a> or call  (203) 837-8482.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"><strong>MAR 1 \u2013 31\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 EXHIBITION: <\/strong>Western will  host an exhibit of sculptures by alumna <a href=\"http:\/\/erinzaffis.com\/\">Erin  Zaffis<\/a> during library hours in the Ruth Haas Library on the university\u2019s  Midtown campus, 181 White Street in Danbury. The works on display will be from  Zaffis\u2019 show, \u201cMAMA.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0\"><strong>MAR. 4<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>LEADERSHIP ACADEMY GLOW  DISCUSSION:\u00a0<\/strong>Dr. Jeannie Hatcherson, WCSU assistant professor of social  sciences, will discuss \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/glow2013.causevox.com\/\">Leadership  Academy GLOW<\/a>\u201d at 12:30 p.m. in Warner Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown  campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Hatcherson will share her experiences working  at GLOW in Bulgaria. In 2000, Camp GLOW was established by Peace Corps  volunteers. Although the Peace Corps is no longer in Bulgaria, GLOW continues  and has been honored by the U.S. Department of State for its success. Today,  Leadership Academy GLOW is an all-women run volunteer organization. Through a  one-week peer-leadership experience, GLOW alumni continue their mission of  empowering and educating young Bulgarian girls. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\"><strong>MAR. 5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LECTURE:<\/strong> Dr. Jeanne I.  Lakatos will discuss \u201cThe Operetta \u2018Luminescence\u2019: Femininity and Musical  Genres\u201d at 12:15 p.m. in Room 508 of the Ruth Haas Library on the university\u2019s  Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The lecture will incorporate  literature, music and sensory perceptions as the literary inspiration for  Lakatos\u2019 operetta, \u201cLuminescence,\u201d is explored. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0\"><strong>MAR. 11<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>ARTIST TALK: <\/strong>Alumna <a href=\"http:\/\/erinzaffis.com\/\">Erin Zaffis<\/a> will discuss \u201cBirth as a Creative  Process\u201d at 2 p.m. in the Atrium of the Ruth Haas Library on the WCSU Midtown  campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Zaffis will discuss her inspiration and  methods for her sculptures that celebrate motherhood. The sculptures, from the  exhibit \u201cMAMA,\u201d will be on display during library hours throughout March. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\"><strong>MAR. 12<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>PANEL DISCUSSION:\u00a0<\/strong>A panel  discussion, \u201cStanding on the Shoulders of the Women Who Came before Us,\u201d will  be at 12:15 p.m. in Room 201 of the Student Center on the WCSU Midtown campus,  181 White St. in Danbury. The discussion will focus on the legacy of great  local women, including women from our community who were first in their field.  It also will bring to light the stories of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwhf.org\/inductees\/reformers\/alice-paul#.UuvDN5zJaM0\">Alice  Paul<\/a> and those who fought for equal rights, social justice and more. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"style5\"><strong>MAR. 13\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"style5\"><strong>READINGS:<\/strong> Western will present readings and book-signings by two Department of  History and Non-Western Cultures faculty members at 12:15 p.m. in the atrium of  the Ruth Haas Library on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in  Danbury. Associate Professor Dr. Leslie Lindenauer will read from \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Could-Not-Call-Her-Mother\/dp\/0739166816\">I Could  Not Call Her Mother: The Stepmother in American Popular Culture, 1750 &#8211; 1970<\/a>\u201d  and Assistant Professor Dr. Jennifer Duffy will read from \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Whos-Your-Paddy-Expectations-Newcomers\/dp\/0814785034\">Who\u2019s  Your Paddy? Racial Expectations and the Struggle for Irish American Identity<\/a>.\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MAR. 13\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 READING:<\/span> Fulbright   Scholar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freiheitfreedom.com\/A.K._Lehmann.html\">Alexandra Lehmann<\/a> and WCSU Professor of History and Non-Western   Cultures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/history\/nolan.asp\">Dr. Michael Nolan<\/a> will read from the writings of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0426578\/\">Sophie Scholl<\/a>   at 7 p.m. in Room 102 of Warner Hall on the university&#8217;s Midtown   campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Scholl had a role in Munich&#8217;s student   resistance against the Nazi regime. This event is sponsored by the WCSU German Studies Center.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"text-align:right;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\" style=\"margin-top:0\"><strong>MAR. 26<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>FILM  SCREENING AND LECTURE:<\/strong> Professor of World Languages and Literature Dr.  Galina Bakhtiarova will host a film screening and discussion about \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0495136\/\">Zarah Leander<\/a>: A Swedish Star of  the Nazi Film Industry\u201d at 5:30 p.m. in Warner Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus,  181 White St. in Danbury. Leander\u2019s controversial career working in Nazi cinema  raises many questions about her art and legacy, which have often been labeled  as Nazi propaganda. Bakhtiarova will explore the politics of film and screen  some of Leander\u2019s work. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style5\"><strong>MAR. 27<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>MENTOR OF THE YEAR  CELEBRATION:\u00a0<\/strong>Professor of Education and Educational Psychology Dr.  Darla Shaw will host an event to celebrate the Mentor of the Year, <a href=\"http:\/\/danburygrassrootstennis.org\/about\/staff\/\">Lauren Dalton<\/a>,  founder of Grass Roots Tennis, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center Theater on  the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Since 2006, Grass Roots  Tennis has enriched the lives of Danbury\u2019s youth by offering them opportunities  to be active and to learn a new sport and skills.
