{"id":1150,"date":"2019-07-17T18:17:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/acropolis\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:17:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:54","slug":"acropolis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/acropolis\/","title":{"rendered":"WestConn to host lecture on New Acropolis Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 Dimitrios Pandermalis, president of the Organization for the  Construction of the New Acropolis Museum, will speak at Western  Connecticut State University this month about the massive project to create a  home for some of the best-known and most important works of art in world  history.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to the free lecture, \u201cApproaching Completion: The New Acropolis  Museum,\u201d at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in Science Building Room 125 on  WestConn\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The talk is the  second in The Constantine S. Macricostas Lecture series, made possible by a  generous donation by the founder and chairman of Brookfield-based Photronics  Inc., Constantine \u201cDeno\u201d Macricostas and his wife, Marie.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Pandermalis is a professor  of archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,  supervisor of the Archaeological site of Dion in northern Greece.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The museum, which  is located 800 feet from the Parthenon, is scheduled to open this year to house  masterpieces from the Parthenon and the other great ancient temples on  the Athenian Acropolis.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Construction has  not been without controversy, as ruins of early Christian civilization were  discovered during excavation.
