{"id":1156,"date":"2019-07-17T18:17:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/american-government\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:17:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:55","slug":"american-government","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/american-government\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU American Government class to feature guest lecturers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 A Western Connecticut State  University class about American  Government will feature guest lecturers Thursday evenings from 5:25 to 6:25 p.m.  during the fall 2006 semester in Room 226 of Warner  Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181    White St. in Danbury.\u00a0 All lectures will be free and open to the public.\u00a0 <br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <br \/>&#013;<br \/>\nThroughout the semester, students will hear from various  public figures including Bill Curry, a former White House aide, who is  scheduled to discuss \u201cThe American Presidency\u201d on Thursday, Oct. 5.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The American Government class is a study of the  institutional, theoretical and functional features of American national  government with special attention to contemporary trends and problems.\u00a0 Adjunct Instructor Scott Benjamin, who  invites the guest speakers to the class, feels these discussions \u201cfurther the  students\u2019 understanding about issues related to the class.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Following is a complete list of  dates, speakers, and topics: <br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n  . \u00a0<strong \/><br \/><strong>Sept. 28: <\/strong>\u00a0Alan Schlesinger, the Republican candidate for the  U.S. Senate, will discuss his plans for Social Security, fiscal policy,  military operations in Iraq  and alternative sources of energy; <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oct.  5: <\/strong>\u00a0Former White House aide Bill  Curry will discuss the American presidency;<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>    <strong>Oct.  12: <\/strong>\u00a0Steve Markowski, an aide to U.S.  Rep.
