{"id":117,"date":"2019-07-17T18:17:53","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/2017-mfa-summer-residency\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:17:53","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:17:53","slug":"2017-mfa-summer-residency","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/2017-mfa-summer-residency\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2017 &#8211; WCSU M.F.A. program to present distinguished author readings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/housatonicbookawards.wordpress.com\/\"> Housatonic  Book Award<\/a> winners Ann Jacobus and Brandon Brown will join faculty and  recent alumni of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/writing\/mfa\/\">Master of Fine  Arts in Creative and Professional Writing<\/a> program at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> in a  weeklong program of author readings during the M.F.A. summer residency session  in August.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The readings will offer the Danbury area community an  opportunity to hear selections from the written works of nationally renowned  authors as well as emerging young writers from Connecticut. Launched in 2005,  the M.F.A. program at Western enables participants from across the nation to  pursue master\u2019s degree studies in a diverse range of creative and professional  writing genres through both distance learning and on-campus residencies.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>All readings will be in the President\u2019s Reception Room,  located in room 218 of the Classroom Building on the university\u2019s Westside  campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Admission will be free and the  public is invited. Readings will begin at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Following is the program schedule:<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wednesday,  Aug. 2: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.annjacobus.com\/\">Ann Jacobus<\/a>, winner of the  Housatonic Book Award for her young adult novel, \u201cRomancing the Dark in the  City of Light,\u201d will read from her works; a question-and-answer session and  book signing will follow the reading.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Thursday,  Aug. 3:<\/strong> At 1 p.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Brandon-R.-Brown\/e\/B00PZWTAHM\/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1500566978&amp;sr=1-2-ent\">Brandon  Brown<\/a> will lecture on \u201cFeast and Famine in Nonfiction Research\u201d and discuss  his book, \u201cPlanck: Driven by Vision, Broken by War,\u201d winner of the Housatonic  Book Award. At 7:30 p.m., M.F.A. alumni <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/author\/show\/14783359.Nick_Manzolillo?from_search=true\">Nick  Manzolillo<\/a>, of Foster, Rhode Island, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/author\/show\/542355.David_Hayes\">David Hayes<\/a>,  of Bristol, will read from their recently finished manuscripts.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Friday,  Aug. 4: <\/strong>M.F.A. alumna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/author\/show\/16808204.Beth_Turley?from_search=true\">Beth  Turley<\/a>, of Waterford, recently signed by Simon and Schuster, will read from  her work. She will be joined by M.F.A. alumni <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/robin-macfadden-44b756129\/\">Robin MacFadden<\/a>,  of Ridgefield, and <a href=\"http:\/\/charlottejdabrowski.writersresidence.com\/\">Charlotte  Dabrowski<\/a>, of Durham, who also will read from their recently finished  manuscripts.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Saturday,  Aug. 5: <\/strong>M.F.A. faculty mentor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.karenromanoyoung.com\/bio\">Karen  Romano Young<\/a>, who has received awards for her works targeted for readers in  the middle grades, will present a reading. She will be joined by M.F.A. alumna  Steph Myers, of Brookfield, who will read from her new manuscript.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Sunday,  Aug. 6: <\/strong>Newly appointed M.F.A.
