DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014While the winter intersession means a chance to relax and take a break for many, a group of WestConn students and their instructor instead embarked on January 1st on a two-week trip to Cambodia. The purpose of the trip was for the students to gain an understanding not only of the politics, history and economics of Cambodia, but also to come away with new perspectives on the everyday life of the Khmer people, who still are recovering from the tragedies inflicted upon their nation 30 years ago by the Khmer Rouge.<\/p>\n

Leading the trip is Adjunct Anthropology Instructor Jeanne Hatcherson, who joined forces with Hearts and Hands for Cambodia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the Cambodian people.\u00a0 Accompanying Hatcherson and her students is Professor of Education Dr. Darla Shaw.<\/p>\n
