{"id":1207,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:05","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/coffeehouse\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:05","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:05","slug":"coffeehouse","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/coffeehouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Big plans brewing at WestConn Coffeehouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 In its seventh semester, the ever-popular Western  Connecticut State University Midtown Coffeehouse will host a variety of musical  performances, ranging across genres from past favorite performers to new,  up-and-coming artists.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Every Thursday at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the university\u2019s  Midtown campus, 181 White St.  in Danbury,  students can escape the monotony of dorm life to enjoy an evening of free coffee,  food and sodas while listening to the featured artists at the spring 2008  Midtown Coffeehouses. The public also can attend. The Coffeehouse is free but  donations to sustain it will be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Each Coffeehouse begins with a one hour open mic session for  students, faculty and staff interested in contributing. Typically, features  from solo artists, bands and student combos from WCSU\u2019s jazz groups follow.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Acts at the Coffeehouse this spring will include: <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Jan.<\/strong> <strong>31:<\/strong> Christian Marrone \u2013 <em>Alternative\/Acoustic\/Ambient<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    Christian Marrone released his first CD \u201cHope Hangover Now\u201d in October       2007 and is currently touring the East Coast. Performing solo or with a       band, he aims to make every show unique with a variety of sets and guest       performers. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/christianmarronemusic\">www.myspace.com\/christianmarronemusic<\/a><\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Feb. 7:<\/strong> Last Fair Deal \u2013 <em>Acoustic\/Folk\/Bluegrass<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    \u201cLast Fair Deal redraws the map of American roots music with \u2026 an eclectic       repertoire drawing on old-time string-band, bluegrass, swing and popular       music. Their new CD, \u2018True Tales,\u2019 serves up 12 original and three       re-grooved, traditional tunes. LFD\u2019s live performances, with stellar       vocals and unique acoustic synergy, will captivate any audience.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lastfairdeal.com\/\">www.lastfairdeal.com<\/a><\/li>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Feb. 21:<\/strong> WCSU Jazz Quartet \u2013 <em>Jazz<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    Led by coordinator of jazz studies Jamie Begian, the group features       alumnus Jonathon Blanck on tenor saxophone, Begian on guitar, alumnus and       adjunct faculty member Chris DeAngelis on bass and alumnus Tim Walsh on       drums. A program of all-original music is planned with each member of the       band contributing one composition.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Feb. 28:<\/strong> Timothy Daniel \u2013 <em>ArtPop<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    \u201cTimothy Daniel has earned a reputation for his catchy melodies, clever       lyrics, off-the-wall stage banter and refreshingly genuine delivery.       Appearing solo or with his full band of all-star studio session players,       Tim has been touring major cities throughout the United States and the       United Kingdom since the spring of 2004. \u2026 Discover a rare musical blend       of the whimsical and the contemplative from one of today\u2019s most       talked-about young songwriters on the scene today.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timothydaniel.com\/\">www.timothydaniel.com<\/a><\/li>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Mar. 5:<\/strong> Derek Waldron \u2013 <em>Piano\/Vocals<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    Recent WestConn graduate Derek Waldron returns to the Coffeehouse, having       been a feature act during the first two years of its existence. Waldron, a       self-proclaimed \u201cwriting fiend,\u201d is currently working on a CD of original       material. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/dwaldron\">www.myspace.com\/dwaldron<\/a><\/li>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Apr. 3:<\/strong> Tyler Cohen \u2013 <em>Acoustic<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    Tyler Cohen is a music education major at WCSU, student teaching for his       last semester. Cohen is the lead singer of the group Forget Paris, which       has performed at a previous Coffeehouse. Cohen will take the stage solo to       perform acoustic songs.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>Apr.<\/strong> <strong>24:<\/strong> Take October \u2013 <em>Rock\/Pop\/Jam       Band<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    Proud to say their first official performance was at a WCSU Coffeehouse in       November 2005, Take October has since performed at many other venues,       including Toad\u2019s Place in New         Haven. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/takeoctober\">www.myspace.com\/takeoctober<\/a><\/li>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n&#013;<\/p>\n<li><strong>May 1:<\/strong> WCSU Student Jazz Ensemble       \u2013 <em>Live Jazz<\/em><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n    One of the outstanding small jazz groups from WCSU\u2019s jazz program will       give a performance of original compositions and jazz standards.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, call the WCSU Office of Student  Affairs at (203) 837-9700 or the Office of University Relations at (203)  837-8486.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><em>Western Connecticut   State University offers outstanding faculty in a range of quality  academic programs.
