{"id":1213,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:08","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/csufrc\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:08","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:08","slug":"csufrc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/csufrc\/","title":{"rendered":"WestConn to host CSU Faculty Research Conference Oct. 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 Researchers from the four campuses of the Connecticut State  University (CSU) System will converge at the Science Building  on WestConn\u2019s Midtown campus to share their scholarship and ideas with  colleagues at the 10th CSU Faculty Research Conference to be held Saturday,  Oct. 14.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Colleen Delaney, a member  of the WestConn organizing committee, observed the conference\u2019s title,  \u201cAdvancing Scholarship Across Disciplines,\u201d underscores the rich diversity of  research themes that will be covered during the one-day event.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the great things about this conference is that it  provides an opportunity to celebrate research spanning many different academic  disciplines,\u201d Delaney said. \u201cThere will be quite a selection, and it\u2019s not only  about traditional research &#8212; innovative learning activities, musical  performances and landscape painting also will be presented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The CSU Faculty Research Conference will feature more than  100 presentations by some 135 faculty members and doctoral candidates from  Western, Southern, Central and Eastern Connecticut  state universities. The conference will showcase faculty and doctoral research  in some 20 disciplines represented at the conference, including education,  psychology, mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering, nursing, business,  communications, history, English and library science.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The conference will begin at 8:15 a.m. with opening remarks  from President James W. Schmotter and German Bermudez, CSU System associate executive  officer for assessment and learning technologies. Oral presentations will be  grouped by discipline and subject in panels that will be offered during one of  three conference sessions beginning at 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.  Participants also will be able to view approximately 20 poster displays to be  shown in the Science Building atrium, with researchers presenting their posters  during a session from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Among the less traditional presentations of the conference  will be a talk about music composition accompanied by the live performance of  an original work. A panel discussion on the creative process of painting also  will be complemented by display of several artistic works during the poster  session.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The conference will conclude with a luncheon for presenters  and attendees at 1 p.m. in Warner Hall on the Midtown campus. Students from the  WestConn music department will perform during the luncheon.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the luncheon will be the presentation of the  first Trustees Research Awards, an annual program established by the CSU Board  of Trustees to recognize faculty for exceptional research and scholarly  contributions in their field during the previous five years. Delaney noted a  total of five research awards for 2006 will be announced at the conference  luncheon: One faculty member from each of the four CSU System campuses will be recognized,  and one of these four awardees also will be named to receive the 2006 CSU  System Trustees Research Award. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Admission to the conference will be free, and individuals  planning to attend the conference are strongly encouraged to pre-register  online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/csufrc\">www.wcsu.edu\/csufrc<\/a>.
