The Faculty Authors Reading is one of several events the university will host as part of the annual Banned Books Week, which raises awareness of issues such as First Amendment rights, censorship and the freedom to express ideas that are considered controversial. Banned Books Week is from <strong>Monday, Sept. 27, through Friday, Oct. 1<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The Faculty Authors Reading will be at 12:30 p.m. in Warner Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury, and will feature Professor of Writing, Linguistics &amp; Creative Process Dr. Edward Hagan, Professor of Education and Educational Psychology Dr. Jane Gangi, Assistant Professor of Nursing Dr. Bozena Padykula, and Associate Professor of Management Dr. Fred Maidment.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n  The event is free and open to the public. Featured books will be available at the event for purchase and signing.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Hagan will read from his book \u201cGoodbye Yeats and O\u2019Neill,\u201d a farce in contemporary Irish and Irish-American narratives. Padykula will read from \u201cGiving through Teaching; How Nurse Educators are Changing the World.\u201d Maidment will read from three of his books: \u201cAnnual Editions: Human Resources,\u201d \u201cAnnual Editions: Management,\u201d and \u201cAnnual Editions: International Business.\u201d Gangi will read from her \u201cDeepening Literacy Learning: Art and Literature Engagements in K-8 Classrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Several other events are planned for Banned Books Week on campus.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tA Banned Books Readathon will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, and Wednesday, Sept. 29, outside of the Student Center (or in the lobby of Warner Hall in case of rain) on the Midtown campus.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tThe Midtown Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus will feature open mic, followed by the featured act, singer\/songwriter Sharaya, at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30. Admission is free and the public is invited.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tProfessor of History and Non-Western Cultures Dr. Kevin Gutzman and Assistant Professor of Communication Truman Keys will discuss \u201cShould Politicians on the Texas School Board of Education be Deciding Curriculum Standards? Implications for Texas and America,\u201d at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Warner Hall on the Midtown campus.
