DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 Big Sean<\/a> will perform at Western Connecticut State University<\/a> at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012<\/strong>, in the Feldman Arena of the O\u2019Neill Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Guests must be 13 years of age or older to attend. Tickets are $39 for non-students and $33 for WCSU students who purchase tickets at the WCSU Box Office with valid school I.D. An emcee from Detroit, Big Sean entered the spotlight in 2007 when he signed with multi-platinum artist Kanye West\u2019s new label, G.O.O.D. Music, in 2007. He then signed with Island Def Jams in 2008. Big Sean met West through a Detroit hip-hop radio station MC contest where he won the battle and then was able to rap live on the air \u2014 gaining so much popularity that the station asked him to return on a regular basis. One night when West was at the studio for an interview, Big Sean raced down to the station, determined to impress the superstar by showcasing his freestyle skills. West allowed him 16 bars while walking out of the building and it was there in the radio station hallway that Big Sean made the connection of a lifetime. After months of submitting his songs to West, his persistence at last paid off and West offered him a recording contract and helped him set up his debut mixtape, \u201cFinally Famous Vol. 1,\u201d released in 2007. His single \u201cGetcha Some\u201d debuted on West\u2019s \u201cCan\u2019t Tell Me Nothin\u2019 Mixtape,\u201d which created buzz and got Big Sean on the airwaves, transforming the unknown rapper into a breakout star. He released several additional mixtapes but it wasn\u2019t until 2011 that his career really took off with the release of his official debut, \u201cFinally Famous: The Album\u201d with the single \u201cMy Last\u201d featuring Chris Brown.<\/p>\n


\n Big Sean is currently most popular for his hit song \u201cDance,\u201d featuring rapper Nicki Minaj and earlier smash single \u201cSupa Dupa.\u201d He\u2019s also featured in some of today\u2019s hottest hip-hop collaborative singles, such as West\u2019s \u201cMercy\u201d and Brown\u2019s \u201cTil I Die,\u201d also featuring Wiz Khalifa, who has worked with Big Sean extensively. Big Sean has worked with a range of different genre artists from Mike Posner with \u201cWho Knows\u201d to Lil Wayne with songs such as \u201cMy Homies Still\u201d to being featured in Justin Bieber\u2019s \u201cAs Long as You Love Me.\u201d He also has collaborated with Drake and a list of other well-known artists including Chiddy Bang, Common, The Dream, Pharell, Royce da 5\u20199\u201d and Kevin McCall. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s only fitting to bring Big Sean to campus as his fans eagerly anticipated the Sept. 5 release of his mixtape \u201cDetroit\u201d and the Sept. 18 release of the G.O.O.D. Music compilation album \u201cCruel Summer.\u201d <\/p>\n
