Their mission is to share their  experiences, their hopes and their continued journeys as writers and as black  men establishing their literary stations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">From 7 to 9 p.m., on <strong>Wednesday, Feb.  19, 2014<\/strong>, the eight-member \u201cBlack Men Writing Project\u201d will hold a forum at <a href=\"http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a>. The public is invited to join in the conversation that  will include reaching out to those who want their voices to be heard. \u201cBlack Men  Writing to Live: Writing, Living, and Loving Our Stories\u201d will be held in the Warner Hall Lyceum on the university\u2019s  Midtown campus, 181White St. in Danbury. It is free and open to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">WCSU Associate Professor of English  Dr. Don Gagnon, who is organizing the event, said that the event\u2019s format will  include a presentation followed by an open dialogue with the audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">\u201cThis will be a good experience for  anyone who feels as though he or she has been left out of the conversation and  how they might feel empowered in their writing,\u201d Gagnon said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">The list of recognized members  includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/authors\/mychal-denzel-smith\">Mychal Denzel  Smith<\/a>,  Knobler Fellow at The Nation Institute\u00a0  writer, mental health advocate and cultural critic; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/darnell-l-moore\/\">Darnell Moore<\/a>, writer and  managing editor, The Feminist Wire; <a href=\"http:\/\/kieselaymon.com\/\">Kiese Laymon<\/a>, writer and  professor at Vassar College; <a href=\"http:\/\/thefeministwire.com\/2014\/01\/introducing-kai-m-green\/\">Kai M. Green<\/a>, writer,  filmmaker and Ph.D Candidate at USC; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crownheightsmediationcenter.org\/2013\/10\/interview-with-marlon-peterson.html\">Marlon Peterson<\/a>, writer and  director of community relations, The Fortune Society; <a href=\"http:\/\/newblackman.blogspot.com\/\">Mark Anthony Neal<\/a>, Professor of  Black Popular Culture, Duke University; Hashim Pipin, writer and cultural  critic; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/wade-davis-jr\/\">Wade Davis II<\/a>, former NFL  player, executive director of <a href=\"http:\/\/youcanplayproject.org\/\">You Can  Play Project.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">The group writes: \u201cWe come from  myriad neighborhoods, diverse familial backgrounds and different life worlds.  We are different, indeed. And yet, in so many ways we are the same. We are  black male identified writers whose notions of blackness, manhood, and writing  are as assorted as our multifaceted lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"style3\">From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday,  Feb. 20, several members of the group will conduct a workshop in Warner Hall Room  103. The workshop will be limited to a dozen participants and registration will  be first-come, first-served at the Wednesday evening forum.
