Tickets prices range from $15 to $69. For more information, call (203) 837-8350 or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newhavensymphony.org\/page\/event\/carmina-burana-249.htm\">www.newhavensymphony.org\/page\/event\/carmina-burana-249.htm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Students in the choir will have the opportunity to work with and learn from musical authorities including musical director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newhavensymphony.org\/page\/artistic-leadership-69.htm\"> William  Boughton<\/a> and featured artists <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operatheaterofct.org\/shows\/2012-season\/sanibel-music-festival-2012\/hall-smf\">Amanda Hall<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joshuakohltenor.com\/\">Joshua Kohl<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ada-artists.com\/artist-roster\/michael-mayes\/\">Michael Mayes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Also participating in the program will be the Fairfield County Chorale and the Fairfield County Children\u2019s Choir. The event is sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynhh.org\/\">Yale New Haven Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naxos.com\/person\/Carl_Orff\/25615.htm\">Carl Orff<\/a>\u2019s \u201cCarmina Burana\u201d is a famous piece composed and first performed in Germany that was inspired by the 24 poems found in the medieval collection \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.athenapub.com\/14carmina.htm\">Carmina Burana<\/a>\u201d by Johan Andreas Schmeller. \u201cO Fortuna\u201d is the first poem of the Schmeller edition and forms a compositional frame for the work by being both the opening and closing movements. It has become a staple in popular culture as it used in numerous TV commercials and movies to set a dramatic mood with the classical world persistently programming and recording the work.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p> Western\u2019s choir will perform Orff\u2019s 20th-century masterpiece \u201cO Fortuna!\u201d as a featured selection from \u201cCarmina Burana,\u201d in addition to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicalarchives.com\/composer\/2717.html#tvf=tracks&amp;tv=about\">Engelbert Humperdinck<\/a>\u2019s \u201cHansel and Gretel Overture\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicalarchives.com\/composer\/3448.html\">Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky<\/a>\u2019s \u201cExcerpts from Swan Lake Suite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Winner of the Adventurous Programming Award in 2010, NHSO supports programs in the schools and community, presenting both classical repertoire and pops concerts and sharing its high musical standards with audiences throughout Connecticut and beyond. Through its Composer-in-Residence program, NHSO draws outstanding composers to mentor music students. In 2009, NHSO was featured in the Miramax film, \u201cEverybody\u2019s Fine,\u201d starring Robert DeNiro. The orchestra also has been featured in many radio broadcasts and made the world-premiere recording of the complete five-movement version of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classical.net\/music\/comp.lst\/mahler.php\">Gustav Mahler<\/a>\u2019s first symphony. Among NHSO\u2019s many triumphs was its selection in 2008 to participate in the League of American Orchestras\u2019 highly competitive Institutional Vision Program.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Boughton, musical director of \u201cCarmina Burana\u201d and the NHSO, has a significant discography of internationally acclaimed recordings, which have reached the Top 10 in the U.S. charts. He has participated in high-profile arts programs with BBC Television and has guest-conducted orchestras around the world. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Western students will take part in a momentous occasion as they perform alongside musical greats and together display their vocal skills.
