DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The Tony Award-winning \u201cCity of Angels,\u201d a combination musical comedy and film noir detective story, will take the stage at Western Connecticut State University for three weekends in November.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Performances will be Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 4 \u2013 7; Friday through Sunday, Nov. 13 \u2013 15; and Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21, in the Berkshire Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The public is invited. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Opening Night, Wednesday, Nov. 4, and at 8 p.m. all other evenings. There will be a matinee only at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15. Tickets will be $10 general admission on Nov. 4 and 5; $18 for adults, and $13 for seniors, students and children on Nov. 6, 13 and 20; and $20 for adults, and $15 for seniors, students and children on Nov. 7, 14 and 21. Matinee tickets on Nov. 15 will be $15 for adults, and $10 for seniors, students and children. WestConn students with valid ID will be admitted free. <\/p>\n


\n Professor of Theatre Arts Sal Trapani, the show\u2019s producer, explains the play\u2019s premise.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018City of Angels\u2019 tells the story of Stine, who is trying to write a screenplay and make a film for Buddy, a movie mogul,\u201d Trapani said. \u201cStine has to keep making changes and compromising his ideals to satisfy Buddy. The main character in the screenplay, Stone, is a detective, and the differences in Stine\u2019s story and Stone\u2019s story, which run parallel, are illustrated by completely different soundtracks, as well as the use of color. Stine\u2019s story is live, in color, on the stage. Stone\u2019s is in black and white on film. Ultimately the movie and real life come together and Stine and Stone challenge each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Broadway production earned Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (James Naughton), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Randy Graff) and Best Scenic Design. <\/p>\n

WestConn\u2019s cast will include Matthew Bagley, of Windsor, as Jimmy Powers; Chris Donovan, of New Fairfield, as Stine; Sean Zackrison, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., as Stone; Jessica Stark, of East Lyme, as Oolie; Holly LoRusso, of Wolcott, as Alaura Kinglsley; Anthony Mendoza, of Stratford, as Manny Munoz; Kaitie Hartman, of Jewett City, as Bobbi; Brianne Sassone, of Paramus, N.J., as Mallory Kingsley; Andrew Hendrick, of Fairfield, as Buddy Fiddler; Casey Miko, of Stratford, as Gabby; Amy Bentley, of East Lyme, as Donna; and Allison Gauthier, of Southington, John Stegmaier, of Bridgeport, Joel Oramas, of Bridgeport, and Aline O\u2019Connor, of Colchester, as the Angel City 4.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The crew will include Trapani as producer, Pamela McDaniel as director, Frank Herbert as technical director, Elizabeth Popiel as set designer, Amy Jones as musical director and choreographer, Anthony Santora as lighting designer, Dan Spring as sound designer, Jessica Camarero as costume designer and Mel Ryan as production manager. Steve Ortiz will conduct.<\/p>\n

WestConn alumni couples who want to enjoy dinner before their theatre experience on Friday, Nov. 6, can buy a combination dinner-theatre ticket for $45.
