{"id":305,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/dot-commissioner-redeker\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:11","slug":"dot-commissioner-redeker","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/dot-commissioner-redeker\/","title":{"rendered":"2015  Transportation Commissioner Redeker to speak at WCSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ct.gov\/dot\/site\/default.asp\">Department of Transportation<\/a> Commissioner James Redeker will speak at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> on Oct. 7 at a forum on the future of Connecticut\u2019s highway and rail system sponsored by the university and the <a href=\"http:\/\/lwv.org\/get-involved\/local-leagues\/connecticut\/lwv-danbury-area\">League of Women Voters of Greater Danbury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The forum, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on <strong>Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015<\/strong>, in Warner Hall on the Midtown campus, 181 White St., Danbury, will also feature Thomas Maziarz, chief of the Department of Transportation Bureau of Policy and Planning, and Oz Griebel, a member of the Governor\u2019s Transportation Finance panel.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The state Legislature this year approved a $2.8 billion bonding package to improve Connecticut transportation, the first part of Gov. Dannel Malloy\u2019s long-term plan to transform the state\u2019s highways and rail system.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"http:\/\/senatedems.ct.gov\/Duff.php\">Bob Duff<\/a> of Norwalk, and Republican Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/ctsenaterepublicans.com\/home-boucher\/\">Toni Boucher<\/a>, who represents parts of Bethel, Ridgefield and Redding, will discuss legislative perspectives on the plan.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>When Malloy proposed a 10-year transportation plan, he said improvements were needed to ensure Connecticut\u2019s financial future.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransportation is the backbone of our economy,\u201d Malloy said. \u201cThe movement of people and goods, facilitating commerce, and bolstering tourism all depend on a highly functioning transit and highway system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Redeker agreed, saying, \u201cIt is essential that we continue to improve transportation options and service in Connecticut. Improving our transportation system also makes Connecticut a more competitive, sustainable and livable state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The forum will give residents an opportunity to ask questions of government officials and political leaders on this crucial topic.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization dedicated to citizens\u2019 informed and active participation in government, increased understanding of major governmental issues and influence upon public policy through education and advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The League and the university hope that this program serves to increase public understanding of this critical issue for our state.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Western Connecticut State University offers outstanding faculty in a range of quality academic programs.
