WCSU students serve organizations with \u2018Day of Service\u2019<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n



\n DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 Western Connecticut State University<\/a> students will again canvas the city to help out a variety of charitable organizations and agencies as part of the annual Western Day of Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n Four hundred students, faculty and staff will participate on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015,<\/strong> from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., volunteering for a variety of activities to help organizations and those they serve. Work will including raking, trimming, weeding, painting, cleaning offices, washing fire trucks, moving books, working with animals and picking up trash.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of the event is to help the community, to recognize WCSU students and their commitment to community, and to create an awareness of the opportunity and the value of volunteerism as part of a college education,\u201d said Dr. Walter Cramer, dean of students at WCSU. \u201cMany of our students arrive at Western understanding the value of volunteerism. Many more learn about it here and make it a part of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWestern Day of Service\u201d has received a commitment of support from many groups and athletic teams from the university, including the women\u2019s basketball team<\/a>, women\u2019s soccer team<\/a>, men\u2019s soccer team<\/a>, men\u2019s tennis team<\/a>, men\u2019s baseball team<\/a>, women\u2019s softball team<\/a>, women\u2019s swimming and diving team<\/a>, Honors Program<\/a>, Greek Council<\/a>, cheerleading team<\/a>, Commuter Student Association, Department of Social Work<\/a>, Student Government Association<\/a>, Latin American Student Organization<\/a>, volleyball team<\/a>, Educational Access & Achievement Program<\/a>, Recreation Services<\/a>, Sigma Delta Tau, WXCI<\/a>, Office of Housing & Residence Life<\/a> and Student Affairs.<\/p>\n
