DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The public is invited to attend readings each evening beginning Sunday, Aug. 1, as part of the university\u2019s Master of Fine Arts program. The readings will be offered at several Danbury sites including the university\u2019s Midtown campus at 181 White St., the Tarrywile Mansion at 70 Southern Blvd., and the Maron Hotel Bar, 42 Lake Ave. Extension. Admission will be free to all public readings.<\/p>\n

The schedule of public readings is as follows:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022\tSunday, Aug. 1, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Mark Sundeen and Alissa Johnson at the Maron Hotel. Sundeen\u2019s most recent book, \u201cNorth by Northwestern,\u201d has made its way to the bestseller charts of The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Johnson is the author of numerous historical romance novels.<\/p>\n

\n \u2022\tMonday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Steve Almond and Rachel (Wofford) McKinley at the Maron Hotel followed by a Late Night: (Dave) Holub Slam. Almond is the author of several books including \u201cWhich Brings Me to You\u201d (with Julianna Baggott), \u201cCandyfreak,\u201d \u201c(Not That You Asked),\u201d and, most recently, \u201cRock and Roll Will Save Your Life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u2022\tTuesday, Aug. 3, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Kate Meadows and Mark Ferry at Tarrywile. A journalist for 11 years, Meadows has published work in national publications. She is the author of \u201cTough Love: A Wyoming Childhood,\u201d a collection of personal essays that recounts her experience as an only child growing up in rural Wyoming. <\/p>\n

\u2022\tWednesday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Mentor Mic at Alumni Hall on WestConn\u2019s Midtown campus.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022\tThursday, Aug. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Joe Ahearn, Stefanie Botelho and Chris Farrell at Tarrywile. Botelho, a recent graduate of the M.F.A. program will read from her not-yet-published provocative book of poetry, prose and lyric, \u201cAt the Empress Motel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2022\tFriday, Aug. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m.: Open mic, Lisa Miller and Elizabeth Ferris at the Maron Hotel.<\/p>\n

The M.F.A. event will offer the Danbury community an opportunity to hear fiction, nonfiction, screenplay and poetry readings by nationally renowned authors, many of whom serve as writers in residence or writing mentors of the university\u2019s M.F.A. in Creative and Professional Writing program. Launched in 2005, the program enables participants from across the nation to continue working while pursuing M.F.A. studies in a diverse range of creative and nonfiction writing genres through distance learning.<\/p>\n
