DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 After receiving full accreditation for its education unit last fall from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation<\/a> (CAEP), Western Connecticut State University<\/a> is now nationally recognized for its entire inventory of initial and advanced programs leading to educator certification. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

All 12 certification programs \u2013 from Elementary Education<\/a> to Spanish<\/a> \u2013 are nationally recognized by specialty professional associations, such as the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics<\/a>. The 12 programs also include the Master of Arts in Teaching<\/a>, all secondary education programs, and intermediate administrator programs (both building and district levels). In addition to this coveted recognition, the music and school counseling programs continue to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music<\/a> (NASM) and the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs<\/a> (CACREP), respectively.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very rare to get 100 percent of your programs recognized without conditions. And we have attained that at Western,\u201d said WCSU Professor of Education Dr. Catherine O\u2019Callaghan<\/a>, who heads the Department of Education and Educational Psychology<\/a>. \u201cThis hallmark of quality is often a key factor in students\u2019 choosing a program.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

O\u2019Callaghan said that this distinction and the previous full accreditation have already resulted in an influx of new and transfer students.
\n The university, in its entirety, is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges<\/a>.<\/p>\n
