DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 A businessman who was hailed by Inc. Magazine as \u201cThe Next Bill Gates\u201d for his revolutionary approach to providing high-quality software services will speak about \u201cSucceeding as an Entrepreneur in Today’s Challenging Economic Environment\u201d at Western Connecticut State University.<\/p>\n

\n Douglas K. Mellinger\u2019s talk will be given under the auspices of the Macricostas Entrepreneurship Lecture, which is funded by a grant from the foundation of Brookfield industrialist and philanthropist Constantine \u201cDeno\u201d Macricostas and his wife Marie. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12<\/strong>, in Room 125 of the Science Building on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The talk will be free and the public is invited.<\/p>\n

\n Mellinger was still in his 20s when he founded PRT Group Inc., a company that created a \u201cnear-shore\u201d development center to build solutions to clients\u2019 complicated software problems. The center was based in Barbados and brought together top-flight engineers in one low-cost place near most of PRT\u2019s U.S. customers. PRT, which later became Enherent, was known for building collaborations with its clients so that the best solutions could be developed on time and under budget.<\/p>\n

\n He has since moved on to found an investment company and a firm that provides support services to private foundations. Mellinger is currently vice chairman of that company, called Foundation Source.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cDoug Mellinger is a businessman that everyone should hear right now,\u201d said Dr. Allen Morton, dean of the Ancell School of Business at WestConn. \u201cHis message of communicating and collaborating to serve clients and to create the best ideas is important at any time, but especially now with the economy in recession. He also discusses the importance of ensuring that no segment of society is left behind, and why that is important to the business community.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n Mellinger established a private foundation reflecting his strong personal commitment to improving the quality of teaching and enhancing career opportunities for the economically disadvantaged. Additionally, he has served on a number of advisory boards to government agencies and universities, including the Stepping Stones Museum for Children, the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the London Business School. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n Mellinger chaired the National Commission on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C. He served as both the national and international director of the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs (ACE), and he helped found the Young Entrepreneurs\u2019 Organization (YEO), and served as its international president in 1997-98. He also holds membership in the Young Presidents\u2019 Organization (YPO).<\/p>\n
