{"id":407,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/frank-gawle-educator-award\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:16","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:16","slug":"frank-gawle-educator-award","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/frank-gawle-educator-award\/","title":{"rendered":"(2016)  WCSU alumnus named semifinalist for music educator award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">WCSU alumnus named semifinalist for music educator award<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-top: 0\"><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/w\/newsevents\/images\/ChipGawle1.jpg\" alt=\"Image of Frank Gawle\" width=\"266\" height=\"400\" align=\"right\" \/><img width=\"0\" align=\"right\" \/>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> alumnus Frank Gawle, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiltonhighschool.org\/pages\/Wilton_High_School\">Wilton High School<\/a> (WHS) teacher, has been named a semifinalist for the 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grammyintheschools.com\/programs\/grammy-music-educator-award\">Music Educator Award<\/a>, an annual prize presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.org\/recording-academy\">The Recording Academy<\/a>, best known as the foundation that presents the Grammy Award.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Gawle, a native of Enfield, holds a master\u2019s degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/music\/\">music education<\/a> from WCSU.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>A music instructor and band director at WHS since 1981, Gawle said he was \u201chonored, flattered and humbled\u201d to be one of 25 national semifinalists for the award. More than 4,500 nominations were submitted nationwide. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The award is given to educators recognized to have made serious contributions to the field of music education.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>In his time at WHS, Gawle has taught music theory and directed the high school\u2019s band programs. Gawle noted that the local administration, teachers, parents and Board of Education have been \u201cvery supportive\u201d of his work.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the award will be announced during Grammy Week later this month.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The winner will be flown to the host city of the Grammy Awards to attend the ceremony, accept the award and receive a $10,000 honorarium.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Begian, interim dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/svpa\/\">School of Visual and Performing Arts<\/a> at WCSU said, \u201cFrank (&#8216;Chip&#8217;) Gawle has invited Western\u2019s Jazz Orchestra to both perform and serve as clinicians for the Wilton Jazz Symposium he hosts every year, so I have had the opportunity to see his work up close. I cannot think of a more dedicated and talented educator than Chip Gawle.
