In the wake of the recent shooting in Newtown that took 26 lives, there is a way people can help through the Western Connecticut State University community.

Friends and family of Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, a victim of the December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, have set up a variety of funds to which people can contribute – whether contributing directly to the family, to a scholarship fund at WCSU or in a general charitable fund.

Ana Grace, aged 6, was a singing, dancing, smiling, beautiful and spiritual little girl who loved her family and her many friends. Her short life has left an indelible imprint on the world, as evident in the viral sharing of a video of Ana and her brother playing a duet on the piano.

The Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Music Scholarship Fund was established to pay tribute to Márquez-Greene’s love of music by providing the opportunity to assist others who wish to pursue a music education at Western. The scholarship was created at the request of the first-grader’s parents, Jimmy Greene, a jazz saxophonist and an assistant professor of music at WCSU; and Nelba Márquez-Greene, program coordinator for the Family Therapy Institute at Klingberg Family Centers and adjunct faculty at Central Connecticut State University.

One way to honor Márquez-Greene’s memory is to make a gift to the scholarship fund. Gifts can be made care of Western Connecticut State University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 181 White St., Danbury, CT 06810 or online at www.wcsu.edu/ia/greene-scholarship.asp.

As a way for people to provide financial assistance to the immediate family of Ana Grace, friends and family have established the Ana Grace Fund at www.anagracefund.com. One hundred percent of the money donated goes to Ana Grace’s parents, Jimmy and Nelba Greene.

The third fund set up to remember and honor six-year-old Ana Grace was set up by Atwork Productions. Connecticut natives Hip Hop artist OnCue and Chris Webby wrote and dedicated the single music track “Home” for sale on iTunes. The song is about the 20 little angels taken in the tragedy and their heroic teachers. Proceeds from the sale of the song will be equally divided and donated to the United Way of Western Connecticut and to the Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Music Scholarship Fund.

For more information, contact the Office of University Relations at (203) 837-8486.

Western Connecticut State University offers outstanding faculty in a range of quality academic programs.
