{"id":450,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/hartman-offers-summer-art-workshop\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:20","slug":"hartman-offers-summer-art-workshop","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/hartman-offers-summer-art-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2017 &#8211; Hartman offers Summer Art Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State  University<\/a> Adjunct Professor of Art <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artcritical.com\/2006\/10\/01\/christine-hartman-drawings-and-paintings\/\">Christine  Hartman<\/a><strong>,<\/strong> whose paintings combine  traditional figurative technique with an appreciation of modern esthetics, will  offer instruction in many elements of artistic composition in a Summer Art  Workshop continuing from <strong>July 17 through 27, 2017<\/strong>, in Room 244 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/svpa\/svpa-center.asp\">Visual and Performing Arts  Center<\/a> on the university\u2019s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in  Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The two-week workshop, presented by the WCSU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/art\/\">Department of Art<\/a>, will meet Mondays  through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $350. Enrollment  is open to the public and may be completed online through July 13<strong \/>at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/summer-workshop-painting-intensive-tickets-33637034275\">www.eventbrite.com\/e\/summer-workshop-painting-intensive-tickets-33637034275<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Hartmann will lead an exploration of the development of  light, space, color and form in artistic composition, providing students with individual  instruction and the opportunity to complete two paintings working from still  life and from works by master painters. Paintings will be done in oil and  students will be asked to provide their own art materials; a materials list  will be made available to students upon enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Hartman received her B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art  Institute and her M.F.A. from Brooklyn College, pursuing advanced studies at  Parsons School of Design and the New York Studio School summer program in  Paris. A member of the Zeuxis Group of still-life painters, she has exhibited  extensively at the Bowery Gallery and other art studios and galleries in New  York and Connecticut. Her works have been reviewed by many print and online  arts publications including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artcritical.com\/\">artcritical.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat interests me about composition is the creation of  movement through connections and tensions throughout the painting,\u201d Hartman  remarked. \u201cI feel it is these elements that keep the viewer engaged and the  painting lively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>For information, contact the Department of Art at (203)  837-8403 or the Office of University Relations at (203) 837-8486.
