The talk will take place during <a href=\"http:\/\/hispanicheritagemonth.gov.\/\">Hispanic Heritage Month<\/a>, an American  federal observance celebrating American citizens\u2019 ancestors from Spain, Mexico,  the Caribbean and South America, as well as the independence anniversaries of  Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Arjona  will discuss five important themes in the history of Mexico \u2014 the pre-Colombian  era, the conquest, the colonial period, the revolution and globalization \u2014 as  well as various themes of Latin American culture. The talk will feature a multimedia  and live performance of \u201cLos Cinco Soles de Mexico\u201d (\u201cThe Five Suns of Mexico\u201d).  The lecture will be in English. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Arjona  is a singer with two albums: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Ra%C3%ADces-Essence-Latin-America-Revisited\/dp\/B00DOK0ZDK\">Raices: The  Essence of Latin America, Volumes I and II<\/a>.\u201d She is currently working on  \u201cThe Five Suns of Mexico\u201d with indigenous language songs in Nahuatl, Purepecha  and Zapotec, as well as Spanish songs. Arjona also has co-translated published  works of authors Benito Perez Galdos, of Spain; Rosario Castellanos, of Mexico;  and Cristina Peri-Rossi, of Uruguay. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p> Associate Professor  of World Languages and  Literature Dr.  Galina Bakhtiarova invited Arjona to campus.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe  subject of Dr. Arjona\u2019s presentation resonates with the content of the course  for Spanish majors and minors, \u2018Readings on the Arts in the Americas,\u2019 that I  am currently teaching,\u201d Bakhtiarova said. \u201cGetting to know the diverse and  hybrid cultures and art of Mexico is a great experience for all students  whether they are taking Spanish classes or not.
