{"id":474,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:22","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/holistic-and-integrative-health-initiatives-panel-discussion\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:22","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:22","slug":"holistic-and-integrative-health-initiatives-panel-discussion","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/holistic-and-integrative-health-initiatives-panel-discussion\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2016 &#8211; WCSU to host Holistic and Integrative Health Initiatives Panel Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State  University<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/ihhs\/\">Institute for Holistic  Health Studies<\/a> (IHHS) will host \u201cHolistic and\u00a0 Integrative Health  Initiatives: Part One,\u201d a panel discussion on holistic health and fitness from  6 to 8 p.m. on <strong>Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016,<\/strong> in Room 218 of the Westside Classroom  Building, Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension, in Danbury. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The event, presented in collaboration with the WCSU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/newsevents\/Entrepreneurial-Arc-panel-to-feature-local-business-founders.asp\">Center  for Entrepreneurship, Research, Innovation, and Creativity<\/a> (ERIC), will  feature a panel discussion about how a passion for health and fitness led the  panelists to develop business practices that allow them to make a living while  inspiring others.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>This discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be  an opportunity for the community to learn about alternative approaches to  health and wellness, as well as to meet practitioners in the Danbury  area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Panelists will include:<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lotusgardensyoga.com\/\">Lara  Azzarito Ward<\/a> \u2013 Yoga Teacher <\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n    <\/ul>\n<p>Ward graduated from WCSU with a B.B.A.  in Business Administration, and a B.A. in English, but her passion for yoga is  what drives her today. As owner of Lotus Gardens Yoga School in Danbury, she trains  others to open their own yoga businesses, believing yoga practice should be a  lifelong commitment to learning, sharing, health and true serenity.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/embodythesacred.net\">Deana Paqua<\/a> \u2013 Shamanic Healer and Reiki Master Teacher.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n    <\/ul>\n<p>Paqua graduated from Fairfield  University with a B.A. in English, and is now owner of Embody the Sacred in  Ridgefield where she specializes in a grounded, spiritual, cross-cultural and  holistic approach to wellness. She offers tools to use in everyday life to ensure  health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthfitnf.com\/\">Seana Hart<\/a> \u2013 Certified Personal Trainer<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n    <\/ul>\n<p>Hart graduated magna cum laude  from WCSU with a B.A. in history, yet always had a passion for exercise  science. She specializes in the mental, emotional and spiritual component  expressing itself in the physical body.\u00a0  Through her EarthFIT and WholeFIT service businesses, she loves to see  her Holistic Lifestyle Coaching clients make lifetime transformations, both  mentally and physically.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>This event is also supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/sps\/\">School of Professional Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/hpx\/\">Department of Health Promotion &amp; Exercise  Sciences<\/a> (HPX). The mission of the IHHS is to provide  the university and Greater Danbury area with an opportunity to engage in and  explore different aspects of holistic and integrative health through  programming and instruction. Its holistic perspective on health and healing  integrates conventional healing with traditional and modern alternative  practices from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The HPX department at WCSU offers two Bachelor of Science  degrees: Health Education (Certification Pre-K-12) and Health Promotion  Studies. Within the Health Promotion Studies program, students may choose one  of four options\/concentrations: Wellness Management, Community Health, Allied  Health Professions, and Holistic and Integrative Health. The students in these  degree programs are prepared for entry-level, certified health education  specialist (CHES) positions.
