{"id":508,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:25","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/intothewoods\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:25","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:25","slug":"intothewoods","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/intothewoods\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 WCSU theatre arts presents fairytale-inspired fantasy &#8216;Into the Woods&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sondheim.com\/shows\/into_the_woods\/\">Into the Woods<\/a>,\u201d a Tony Award-winning masterpiece by musical theater giant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sondheim.com\/\">Stephen Sondheim<\/a> based on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0487567\/\">James Lapine\u2019s<\/a> book, will be presented at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> this December. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The WCSU Department of Theatre Arts will stage \u201cInto the Woods\u201d at 3 and 7 p.m. on <strong>Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, 2012<\/strong>, in the Berkshire Theatre on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. Danbury.  General admission tickets are $20. Tickets for seniors and non-WCSU students are $15. Tickets for children 12 and under are $10. Admission will be free for WCSU students with valid I.D. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInto the Woods\u201d is centered upon a witch\u2019s curse that condemns the Baker and his Wife to a life without children. The couple embarks on a quest to find the four items needed to break the spell: the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn and the slipper as pure as gold. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Julio Agustin Matos Jr., the performance is a witty and bold reimagining of a combination of beloved, classic fairytales including Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella. The play mimics the classic fairytale scenarios as along their expedition the Baker and his Wife encounter famous characters from Cinderella to Red Riding Hood to Rapunzel, all of whom have deep desires of their own. \u201cInto the Woods\u201d is produced by WCSU\u2019s Sal Trapani and Pam McDaniel, with Tom Cuffari as musical director.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Playing the leading roles will be Anthony Mendoza, of Stratford, as the Baker; Tara Llewellyn, of Brookfield, as the Baker\u2019s wife; Audrey Twitchell, of Westport, as Cinderella; Leroy Walton, of Hamden, as Cinderella\u2019s Mother and the Giant; Willie Marte, of Danbury, as Cinderella\u2019s Father; Kyle Attanasio, of Shelton, as Cinderella\u2019s Prince and the Wolf; Valarie Henry, of Waterbury, as Cinderella\u2019s Step Mother; Katrina Sebastian, of Sterling, as Florinda; Brittany Wigglesworth, of Westbrook, as Grandmother; Myles Tripp, of New Haven, as Jack; Caroline Strange, of Southbury, as Jack\u2019s Mother; Michelle O\u2019Konis, of Strafford Springs, as Little Red Riding Hood; Colleen Gunning, of Southbury, as Lucinda;. Dhafir Jackson, of Bridgeport, as Narrator; Anna Giordano, of Clinton, as Rapunzel; Josh Hahn, of Derby, as Rapunzel\u2019s Prince; Katie Armstrong, of Moodis, as Sleeping Beauty; Katie Rudnicki, of Meriden, as Snow White; Rachel Fournier, of Shelton, and Alexis Willoughby, of Gaylordsville, as the Witch.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Will the two be able to lift the curse on their family line and achieve so-called happily ever after?
