The classic Greek tragedy will be performed at7 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Produced and directed by Leonidas Loizides, \u201cIphigenia in Tauris\u201d stars Eftychia Papadopoulou as Iphigenia, Francesco Andolfi as Orestes, and Taso Mikroulis as Thoas. Classified as a romance and melodrama, the play focuses on the young princess Iphigenia who has been swept away to Tauris and forced into religious servitude. Her relatives, who live in Greece, think she is dead and Iphigenia wants to inform them that she is alive and would like to return to her homeland. The play is an original drama by the Greek playwright Euripides written between 414 B.C. and 412 B.C. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">Loizides, a Cypriot by birth, earned his degree in film directing at New York University\u2019s Tisch School of the Arts. He worked in theaters in Athens, Greece, and staged a series of plays ranging from ancient tragedies to contemporaries. With the Leonidas Loizidis Theatre Company, he has staged performances in Cyprus, England, France and the United States. The theater company consists of 12 members including the actors, the director, the technicians and the production organizers.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0\">&#013;<br \/>\n      According to loizidis.com, the Leonidas Loizides Theatre Company was established as a nonprofit organization with the goal of spreading Greek culture through traveling productions of Greek drama. The company has staged many plays including \u201cThe Trojan Women Today,\u201d \u201cLove Letters,\u201d \u201cApokalypse,\u201d \u201cGalateia\u201d and \u201cThe Holy Sermon.\u201d<br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      The production at WCSU is funded by a grant from the foundation of Brookfield industrialist and philanthropist Constantine \u201cDeno\u201d Macricostas and his wife Marie. Macricostas is also the chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of Photronics Inc.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The performance will be free and the public is invited.
