DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University<\/a> Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury, will offer enchanting entertainment for the young \u2014 and young at heart \u2014 during the month of July. Tickets for the events, part of the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family series, are available at http:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/org\/2338476547?s=14587443<\/a>.<\/p>\n

First up is the WCSU Department of Theatre Arts production, \u201cAlice in Wonderland,\u201d at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 6<\/strong>, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7<\/strong>. \u201cAlice in Wonderland\u201d follows the classic children\u2019s tale with an experimental twist and special focus on movement. It features a young girl named Alice whose curiosity gets the better of her when she follows the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole. From there, she arrives in Wonderland, a mysterious place filled with strange creatures, leading to crazy adventures. Coloring activities and face painting will be available for children who attend the matinee performances. Those who arrive in Alice costumes will receive an autographed \u201cAlice in Wonderland\u201d poster. Tickets will be $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and children 16 and under, and $40 for a Family Four-Pack (plus fees) and are available at http:\/\/ivesconcertparkaliceinwonderland-eorg.eventbrite.com<\/a>\/. This is an intimate performance where the audience sits on the stage under the Ives gazebo.<\/p>\n

At 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 6<\/strong>, \u201cWar Stars: An Unauthorized Parody\u201d will be presented. Written, directed and performed by John Stegmaier, this parody goes to the far ends of another galaxy. There are no set or props, just lights and one man telling the story, living the battles, finding the robots and learning the ways of some mysterious force that binds the galaxy together. Admission will be free for guests holding a ticket for the 7 p.m. performance of \u201cAlice in Wonderland\u201d on Saturday night. Tickets for just the \u201cWar Stars\u201d performance will be $10 plus fees and are available at http:\/\/warstars2013-es2.eventbrite.com\/?rank=2#<\/a>. This is an intimate performance where the audience sits on the stage under the Ives gazebo.<\/p>\n

Returning to the Ives stage for the second consecutive year will be the Golden Dragon Acrobats from China. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 14<\/strong>. The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent a time-honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. World-renowned impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dancing, ancient and contemporary music, and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. General admission tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and children 12 and under, and $50 for a Family Four-Pack (plus fees) and are available at http:\/\/ivesgoldendragonacrobats2013.eventbrite.com\/#<\/a>. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and there will be two one-hour sets with an intermission.<\/p>\n

Also back by popular demand is the Connecticut Ballet Summer Dance Caravan on Friday, July 26<\/strong>. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. There will be a 6 p.m. ballroom dance class offered by John Vitti of Vitti\u2019s Dance Studio. At 7 p.m., Connecticut Ballet\u2019s dancers will perform classical and contemporary duets narrated and produced by Artistic Director Brett Raphael. A \u201cMeet & Greet\u201d dance party reception will follow at 9 p.m. Admission is free; donations will be accepted at the venue.<\/p>\n
