{"id":602,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:35","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/mfa-2016-winter-readings\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:35","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:35","slug":"mfa-2016-winter-readings","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/mfa-2016-winter-readings\/","title":{"rendered":"2015  M.F.A. in writing program to host authors in Danbury"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">WCSU\u2019s M.F.A. in writing program to host authors in Danbury<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0\"><strong><br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n  DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/housatonicbookawards.wordpress.com\/\">2015 Housatonic Book Awards<\/a> in Poetry and Fiction will read from their work along with a host of other poets and writers in Danbury during the first week of January.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Monday, Jan. 4, 2016<\/strong>, poet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattheaharvey.info\/\">Matthea Harvey<\/a> will read from her award-winning collection of poems and images, \u201cIf the Tabloids are True What are You?\u201d at 7 p.m. at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Author <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnkatzenbach.com\/\">John Katzenbach<\/a> will read from his award-winning novel \u201cRed 1-2-3\u201d at 7 p.m. on <strong>Tuesday, Jan. 5<\/strong>, at the Ethan Allen Hotel. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The Housatonic Book Awards are sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/writing\/mfa\/\">Creative and Professional Writing <\/a>program at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a>. The awards honor excellent work by contemporary authors who serve as role models for professional writing students. The winners of the Housatonic Book Awards in Nonfiction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesliejamison.com\/\">Leslie Jamison<\/a>) and Writing for Young Adults and Middle Grades (<a href=\"http:\/\/authors.simonandschuster.com\/Tawni-Waters\/428601484\">Tawni Waters<\/a>) will appear at the August 2016 residency.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The schedule of readings, in collaboration with the M.F.A. program\u2019s January residency, also will include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thereddingpilot.com\/2015\/11\/06\/zz-boone-when-an-attempt-to-impress-girls-becomes-a-career\/\">Z. Z. Boone<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/donjsnyder.com\/\">Don Snyder<\/a> at 7 p.m. on <strong>Sunday, Jan. 3<\/strong>, in Room 218 of the Classroom Building on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Boone will read from his new collection of short stories, \u201cOff Somewhere.\u201d Snyder\u2019s career includes the novels \u201cFallen Angel\u201d and \u201cWinter Travelers: A Christmas Fable\u201d and the memoirs \u201cThe Cliff Walk\u201d and \u201cOf Time and Memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>At 7 p.m. on <strong>Wednesday, Jan. 6<\/strong>, M.F.A.
