{"id":621,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:32","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/maddancesrelease\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:32","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:32","slug":"maddancesrelease","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/maddancesrelease\/","title":{"rendered":"2011 Recital and reception to celebrate &#8216;Mad Dances&#8217; release"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  To celebrate the recent CD release, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mad-Dances-American-Music-Saxophone\/dp\/B004W10CMO\/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1315591566&amp;sr=1-1\">Mad Dances: American Music for Saxophone and Piano<\/a>,\u201d the Western Connecticut State University department of music will host a recital and reception at 8 p.m. on <strong>Thursday, Sept. 22<\/strong>, in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Presented by WCSU music faculty Dr. Dan Goble and Dr. Russell Hirshfield, the concert will include works by Goble, Hirshfield and J.S. Bach, Astor Piazzolla, Domenico Scarlatti, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Amy Quate, David Del Tredici and WCSU faculty composer Dr. Kevin Jay Isaacs. Goble, a saxophone player, and Hirshfield, a pianist, will play their respective instruments. Soprano and Broadway veteran Patty Goble also will perform. She has previously appeared in shows such as \u201cCurtains,\u201d \u201cRagtime\u201d and \u201cThe Phantom of the Opera.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>At the reception, the artists will sign copies of \u201cMad Dances.\u201d Copies of the CD will be available at the concert, or can be obtained from both Amazon.com and iTunes. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Goble, dean of the WCSU School of Visual and Performing Arts, has more than 30 years\u2019 experience as a performer and is committed to recording contemporary works for the saxophone. As a musician, he has worked with some of the most well-known conductors and ensembles worldwide. His previous work can be found on the CD \u201cFreeway\u201d and through his recordings of \u201cQuartet Opus 22,\u201d which is available on the Naxos label.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor of Music Dr. Russell Hirshfield is an active chamber pianist who has performed in New York, Boston, Miami and San Francisco. Throughout his career he has collaborated with members of the Detroit Symphony, Chicago Lyric Opera and New York City Opera, among others. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/allmusic.com\/album\/mad-dances-american-music-for-saxophone-and-piano-w265436\">Allmusic.com<\/a>, \u201cDan Goble on various saxophones and Russell Hirshfield on piano take a listener on an aural roller coaster through dissonance, atonality, complex rhythms, and even occasional tenderness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The CD also features the music of David Diamond, William Albright, David Del Tredici and Libby Larsen.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The event will be free and the public is invited.
