{"id":646,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:34","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/media-politics-constitution-panel\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:34","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:34","slug":"media-politics-constitution-panel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/media-politics-constitution-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"2016  Media, politics and the Constitution panel at WCSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\">Western Connecticut State  University<\/a> will celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a discussion of  politics and the media featuring local and national journalists.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wshu.org\/people\/ebong-udoma\">Ebong  Udoma<\/a>,  senior political reporter for WSHU radio in Fairfield, will highlight the discussion  at 5:30 p.m. on <strong>Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016<\/strong>, on the Midtown campus in Ives Concert Hall,  White Hall, 181 White St. in Danbury. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>At WSHU  Udoma covers the Connecticut capitol and statewide politics. He<strong> <\/strong>has also worked at the  NPR National News Desk and as part of NPR\u2019s diversity initiative. Udoma  recently returned from his native Nigeria, where he spent a year helping to  establish the international media network Gotel Africa. During his time there,  he trained and managed local reporters and covered major stories, such as the  presidential election in Nigeria and the government\u2019s offensive against Boko  Haram.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Also  on the panel will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/story\/14535336\/kevin-hogan\">Kevin Hogan<\/a>, New London bureau chief for WFSB;  Jacqueline Smith, editorial page editor at The News-Times; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlad.com\/page.php?page_id=20613\">Jillian Mauro<\/a>, afternoon news  anchor at WLAD; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jimmasters?authType=NAME_SEARCH&amp;authToken=0rrH&amp;locale=en_US&amp;trk=tyah&amp;trkInfo=clickedVertical%3Amynetwork%2CclickedEntityId%3A4937647%2CauthType%3ANAME_SEARCH%2Cidx%3A1-1-1%2CtarId%3A1472564467070%2Ctas%3Ajames%20masters%20cutv\">James Masters<\/a>, a radio and  television host with CUTV News and Fox Broadcasting Co. <br \/>&#013;<br \/>\n      Moderators  will be Dr. D.L. Stephenson, associate professor of Communication and Media  Arts, and John Roche, assistant professor of Writing, Linguistics and Creative  Process.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. JC  Barone, associate professor of Communication and Media Arts, who is organizing  the Constitution Day event, said the discussion will highlight the vibrancy of  U.S. democracy and the Constitution, which was signed on Sept. 17, 1787.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat  a year to talk about media and politics and the Constitution,\u201d Barone said. \u201cA  presidential election highlights all the tensions in our system and the  strengths of America.
