DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The public is invited to join students, faculty and staff for a race across the city as Western Connecticut State University<\/a> sponsors a \u201cCampus-to-Campus 5K\u201d next month.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013,<\/strong> runners will leave the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury, and head to the Midtown campus, 181 White St. The 3.1-mile route will include Lake Avenue, West Street and Main Street before finishing at White Street. Fitness walkers start immediately after runners at 9:05 a.m. Strollers are welcome.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Runners and walkers can register online at http:\/\/wcsu.edu\/5k\/<\/a> for $25 per person ($30 after Oct. 4). A New Balance Tech Shirt and race bag will be given to the first 125 pre-registered runners or walkers. Participation is free for Western students. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Race day registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the Westside campus. After the race, shuttle buses will transport participants back to the registration and parking area.<\/p>\n

The race will be chip timed and prizes will be awarded in the following divisions: Men\u2019s Open: 1st, 2nd, 3rd; Women\u2019s Open: 1st, 2nd, 3rd; top Western student male\/female; top Western employee male\/female; top Western alumni male\/female; and most creative use of Western colors (navy blue and copper). There will be one prize per winning contestant.<\/p>\n

Proceeds of the event will benefit Western student fitness and wellness programs by funding the purchase of fitness equipment, providing health seminars and sponsoring wellness activities on campus.<\/p>\n
