{"id":786,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:49","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/primeministeroftibet\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:49","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:49","slug":"primeministeroftibet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/primeministeroftibet\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Prime Minister of Tibet to speak at Western"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  A Fulbright scholar, Harvard Law School graduate and the elected leader of tens of thousands of people fighting for freedom, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kalontripafortibet.org\/\">Prime Minister of Tibet Lobsang Sangay<\/a> will lecture next month at Western Connecticut State University.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Sangay will deliver the President\u2019s Lecture Series address at 2 p.m. on <strong>Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012<\/strong>, in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The lecture, entitled \u201cDemocracy in Exile: the Case of Tibet,\u201d will be free and the public is invited. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored that Kalon Tripa Lobsang Sangay will deliver this spring\u2019s President\u2019s Lecture,\u201d said WCSU President James W. Schmotter. \u201cDr. Sangay will provide insights about the political and human rights dimensions of Tibet\u2019s complex status today.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Sangay replaces the Dalai Lama as political leader. The Dalai Lama gave up his role as leader of the Tibetan exile movement last year and Sangay was elected by the people in August. Born in a refugee settlement in Darjeeling, India, the 43-year-old Sangay has never visited Tibet, but his expertise on the country and its relationship with China has earned him worldwide respect. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n      An expert on Tibet, international human rights law, democratic constitutionalism and conflict resolution, Sangay has lectured at various universities, think-tanks throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
