{"id":800,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:50","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/public-invited-to-participate-in-permaculture-garden-community-days\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:50","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:50","slug":"public-invited-to-participate-in-permaculture-garden-community-days","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/public-invited-to-participate-in-permaculture-garden-community-days\/","title":{"rendered":"WCSU 2017 &#8211; Public invited to participate in Permaculture Garden Community Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --> <\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n            &#013;<br \/>\n            &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 As spring approaches, students and staff affiliated  with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/goodall\/\">Jane Goodall Center for  Excellence in Environmental<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/goodall\/\"> Studies<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> are  preparing to get their hands dirty in the university\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/goodall\/permculture.asp\">Permaculture  Garden<\/a> on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Launched during the 2014-15  academic year, the garden serves multiple purposes, including  course curriculum across many disciplines \u2014 and its yield provides healthy,  locally grown food for WCSU students in the campus cafeterias and at area food  pantries. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The community is invited to learn more about  permaculture gardening and to participate hands-on in the soil preparation and  planting of WestConn\u2019s garden at several upcoming volunteer work days that are  open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The scheduled volunteer opportunities are:<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Wednesday, March 8, 2017: <\/strong>Garden       Volunteer Meeting, 2 p.m., Science       Building, Room 150, Midtown campus<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n    <\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Wednesday, March 22, 2017:<\/strong> Planting in the Greenhouse, 2       p.m., Science Building, Room 150, Midtown campus<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n  <\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Friday, April 21, 2017: <\/strong>Composting Day in the Garden,       noon to 4 p.m., Permaculture Garden adjacent to Science Building, Midtown       campus<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n    <\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Saturday, April 22, 2017: <\/strong>Planting Day in the Garden, 9       a.m. \u2013 3 p.m., Permaculture Garden adjacent to Science Building, Midtown       campus<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n  <\/ul>\n<p>Last fall,  the Jane Goodall Center was awarded a $500 Community Champions Grant by Constellation,  an Exelon company, for use with the garden.
