{"id":896,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/studentsencouragedtoparticipateincensus2010\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","slug":"studentsencouragedtoparticipateincensus2010","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/studentsencouragedtoparticipateincensus2010\/","title":{"rendered":"WestConn students encouraged to participate in Census 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  It\u2019s important to be counted \u2014 that\u2019s why students at Western Connecticut State University are being urged to participate in Census 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>WCSU will participate in a Census kick-off press conference at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at City Hall, 155 Deer Hill Ave. in Danbury.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWestConn, along with other campuses in the state, will be working hard to encourage all students, but especially our residential students, to complete census forms in April,\u201d said WCSU Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Walter Bernstein. \u201cThose students living on campus will be counted as Danbury residents for the purpose of this census count.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>A committee designed to organize events at WestConn will begin publicizing the census at the end of January, when the spring semester begins. Events will include activities, entertainment and give-a-ways to students.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of our involvement, we have filed a grant with the Census Bureau for funding to allow us to support formal programs on campus in the spring alerting students that the census is important to them,\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cEven if we do not get these grant monies, we will still be mounting several information programs and getting out the word to all of our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>There are more than 1,500 students who live on WestConn\u2019s two campuses and they all will be counted as Danbury residents if they fill out a form in April.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s good for Danbury, because it allows us to increase representation at the state level,\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cThe students have to see the value of being part of a community. It\u2019s a civic responsibility students have to fill out the form.
