{"id":906,"date":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/study-abroadincostarica\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:18:59","slug":"study-abroadincostarica","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/study-abroadincostarica\/","title":{"rendered":"2013  WCSU to offer spring break study-abroad opportunity in Costa Rica"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/biology\/\">Department of  Biological and Environmental Sciences<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/\">Western  Connecticut State University<\/a> will offer an opportunity during the spring  semester to study turtle conservation in Costa Rica as part of Bio 198,  \u201cIntroduction to Tropical Field Biology.\u201d Students enrolled in the course will  spend a week in March 2014 conducting research at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goldringmarinestation.org\/Goldring-Gund\/Home.html\">Goldring-Gund  Marine Biology Station<\/a> in Playa Grande, Costa Rica, alongside students from  Purdue and Drexel universities.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The course will offer four WCSU credits that fulfill a  general education lab science requirement and non-science majors can also  enroll. In addition to the lab work taking place from March 15\u201323, 2014, the  course will include pre- and post-trip meetings and a final exam.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The program travel fee of $2,200 will cover airfare, two  meals a day, local transportation within Costa Rica, course activities and  supplies, and emergency health insurance. Full-time matriculated students will  pay the cost of the four course credits as part of their WCSU tuition payment  for the spring semester; separate course credit fees will apply for  participants who are not matriculated at WCSU on a full-time basis.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Applications to participate in the Costa Rica research course  may be obtained online by accessing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/biology\/images\/Application%20-%20Costa%20Rica%202014.pdf\">program  link<\/a> provided on the WCSU Department of Biological and Environmental  Sciences home page at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/biology\">www.wcsu.edu\/biology<\/a>.  Completed applications must be submitted with a nonrefundable $500 deposit to  the attention of Lisa Taylor at the department office in Room 220 of the  Science Building on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.
