DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The story of \u201cTres Vidas\u201d will unfold at Western Connecticut State University with chamber music of the Core Ensemble as it celebrates the life, times and work of three significant Latin and South American women.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Oct. 22 performance is free and open to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university\u2019s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The show is based on the lives of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni. The Core Ensemble includes cellist Tahirah Whittington, pianist Hugh Hinton, percussionist Michael Parola, and actress Georgina Corbo, who will portray the featured women. Corbo has appeared on television shows such as \u201cLaw & Order\u201d and \u201cNew York Undercover.\u201d <\/p>\n

The storylines will focus on Kahlo\u2019s dramatic and passionate relationship with painter Diego Rivera, Amaya\u2019s astounding singular survival of the massacre at El Mozote and Storni\u2019s challenges as Argentina\u2019s first well-known feminist poet. The music will also include traditional Mexican folk songs and Argentinean popular and tango music.<\/p>\n

Since it began in 1993, the Core Ensemble has toured around the country and internationally to England, Russia, Ukraine, Australia and the British Virgin Islands. <\/p>\n
