DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 The month of July brings diverse entertainment offerings as part of the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family series at Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University<\/a> Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cShalamazoo: The Musical\u201d will fill the Ives gazebo stage with family-friendly antics on Friday, July 15, <\/strong>and Saturday, July 16, 2016<\/strong>. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday. \u201cShalamazoo: The Musical\u201d made its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2001 and is based upon the book \u201cShalamazoo\u201d by Joe Shaboo and illustrated by Jessica Churchill. The play provides plenty of opportunities for the children to climb on stage and march and dance with the characters or sit enraptured as the cast leaves the stage to run, play and hide among the audience. It is a delight to watch consisting of a series of songs and set pieces, creating a show that is high on excitement but low on narrative. (Michael Apter \u201cThe List,\u201d Edinburgh Scotland). On Sunday, July 17<\/strong>, dance will be the featured performance medium for the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family Series at Ives. At 6 p.m., John Vitti, of Vitti\u2019s Dance Studio, will offer a free ballroom dance class. No experience necessary (bring comfortable dancing shoes or sneakers). At 7:30 p.m., Connecticut Ballet\u2019s<\/a> dancers will present an exciting program of solos, duets and trios, including two world premieres by Eve Chan and Rodney Rivera. Artistic Director Brett Raphael will narrate the program spanning classical favorites to contemporary selections performed by principals and soloists of Connecticut\u2019s professional ballet company. Feeling patriotic? Then come enjoy a free performance by the 102nd Army Band<\/a>, which will perform \u201cA Salute to Our Nation\u2019s Heroes\u201d at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24<\/strong>. The 102nd Army Band is a National Guard unit stationed in Rockville that performs at sendoff ceremonies for soldiers who are being deployed, as well as for their return home, for the Governor\u2019s inauguration ceremony, special in-state ceremonies and high-profile dinner events, military graduations, change of command ceremonies and dining-in events for our soldiers. They also perform for the community. During the summer, they travel the state performing on town greens, in gazebos, for recreation departments, senior centers, Veterans\u2019 homes, etc. Additionally, they perform the National Anthem for the Rock Cats, Wolf Pack and local sporting events. They continuously pull classic tunes from their 1,000+ piece music library and work in new, up-to-date charts from the movies and radio. No tickets are required.<\/p>\n

The world\u2019s No. 1 Steely Dan tribute band, Beau Bolero<\/a>, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30<\/strong>. Beau Bolero is a Connecticut-based musical group formed in late 1980 by four close friends who are dedicated to reproducing the music of Steely Dan. Their success grew rapidly due to the fact that Steely Dan stopped touring in 1974 and did not resume playing live concerts until 1993. They play all the hits and more, in note-for-note renditions that will leave you reelin\u2019 in the years and realizing you\u2019ve just spent some precious time outta mind. This is a general admission show; patrons should bring lawn chairs or blankets, since seating will not be available.\u00a0Gates open at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $20; children 12 and under are $10.
