{"id":974,"date":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/vpac-open-house\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","slug":"vpac-open-house","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/vpac-open-house\/","title":{"rendered":"2014  WCSU to offer insider&#8217;s view of new Visual and Performing Arts Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">WCSU to offer insider\u2019s view of new Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC)<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\" style=\"margin-top: 0\"><span style=\"font-size:11px\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/w\/newsevents\/images\/VPAC_west7-2014_8264web_000.jpg\" alt=\"Image of Visual and Performing Arts Center\" width=\"350\" height=\"140\" align=\"right\" \/>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014  In a \u201cbehind-the-scenes\u201d open house, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\">Western Connecticut State University<\/a> will offer a glimpse of how art, music and theatre come to life in its new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/svpa\/svpa-center.asp\">Visual and Performing Arts Center<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Guests will see and hear WCSU students, faculty and staff actively utilizing the facility\u2019s numerous performance, exhibition and rehearsal spaces at a Gala Open House on <strong>Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014<\/strong>, starting at 1:30 p.m. The new state-of-the-art center is located on the university\u2019s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The gala will open with remarks from university President James Schmotter after which time visitors are welcome to explore the three distinctive wings of the new facility designed specifically for Art, Music and Theatre Arts. During the open house, students and faculty will be engaged in the creative activities of this exciting new venue. The Concert Hall, MainStage Theatre, Recording Studio, Studio Theatre, Art Gallery and Sculpture Studio are just a few of the spaces that will be on view. There is no cost to attend the open house and everyone is welcome. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>As the excitement of the new semester in a new building continues to build, special gala opening events will be held in each of the three main performance and exhibition spaces.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>A gala reception for the inaugural exhibit in the Art Gallery will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on <strong>Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.<\/strong> \u201cCorrugated Worlds: The Work of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesgrashow.com\/\">James Grashow<\/a>\u201d will display a unique arrangement of cardboard flowers, animals and people in the VPAC Art Gallery. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/art\/\">Art Department<\/a> will host a \u201cCommunity Workshop\u201d from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on <strong>Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014<\/strong>. The workshop will offer the opportunity to work with Grashow on the construction of cardboard flowers that will be included in the exhibit. Grashow will also talk about his life and work from 7 to 8 p.m. on <strong>Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014<\/strong>. All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The gala opening of the stunning new MainStage Theatre will be at 8 p.m. on <strong>Friday, Nov. 14, 2014<\/strong>. Headlining the event will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/theatrearts\">Department of Theatre Arts<\/a> production of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlewomenonbroadway.com\/\">Little Women, the Broadway Musical<\/a>.\u201d The show will feature Broadway actresses Janelle Robinson and Jan Neuberger. \u201cLittle Women\u201d composer Jason Howland will be present at a pre-show reception at 6:30 p.m. and post-show talk as part of the celebration of the official opening of the MainStage Theatre. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>Performances following the opening are: Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Thursday and Friday, Dec. 4 and 5, at 10:30 a.m. For tickets, call (203) 837-TIXX or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/tickets\">www.wcsu.edu\/tickets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">On <strong>Friday, Dec. 5, 2014,<\/strong> at 8 p.m., renowned saxophonist and WCSU Co-Coordinator of Jazz Studies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmygreene.com\/\">Jimmy Greene<\/a> will perform with his quartet, featuring pianist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reneerosnes.com\/\">Renee Rosnes<\/a>, bassist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnpatitucci.com\/\">John Patitucci<\/a> and drummer <a href=\"http:\/\/tainish.com\/\">Jeff \u201cTain\u201d Watts<\/a>, for the gala opening of the Concert Hall. The concert will also celebrate the release of Greene\u2019s long-awaited recording, \u201cBeautiful Life,\u201d on Mack Avenue Records.
