\"ImageDANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 After much planning, designing, building and anticipating, the moment has arrived. On Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014,<\/strong> at 10:30 a.m., university officials will hold an official ribbon cutting for the new Visual and Performing Arts Center<\/a> at Western Connecticut State University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The event will be in the West Lobby of the new 130,000-square-foot building on the university\u2019s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. This special event is free and the public is welcome to witness the official induction of the center into the university campus and community. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) at Western offers the opportunity to receive a high quality arts education in an amazing facility, at the relatively low cost of a state university,\u201d said Dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts<\/a> and Professor of Music Dr. Dan Goble.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The center emphasizes the individual character of each of the university\u2019s art programs, and, expressed in the center\u2019s interplay of shapes, materials and light. Each program \u2013 visual arts, theatre arts and music \u2013 is identified with a metal-clad geometric shape housing its signature activity: the concert hall, the proscenium theatre and its north-facing art studios \u2013 reflecting the intimacy of theater, the expansiveness of performed music and the creative concentration of the visual arts.<\/p>\n

As the celebration continues, on Sunday, Sept. 28,<\/strong> 2014<\/strong>, a Gala Open House will be held at the VPAC and will feature the facility\u2019s performance, exhibit and studio spaces being fully utilized by students, faculty and staff, creating a true \u201cbehind the scenes\u201d look at the center in action.<\/p>\n
