{"id":991,"date":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcsu.wpengine.com\/news-archives\/videoawards\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T18:19:06","slug":"videoawards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/news-archives\/videoawards\/","title":{"rendered":"WestConn students take home awards for two videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"sharingTools\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/sharingtools.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<div id=\"breadcrumb\"><!-- #include virtual=\"\/include\/breadcrumb.inc\" --><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<br \/>\n    &#013;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANBURY, CONN. <\/strong>\u2014 \u201cWhen you think of jail, who do you think of?\u201d was the question posed in one award-winning video by students at Western Connecticut State University.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The four students: David Duncan, Mike Lukaniec, Dan Choi and Robin Moravsky earned second place in the student-produced video commercial for an alcohol awareness Public Service Announcement competition sponsored by Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of Connecticut in May.<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>The 30-second clip flashes the words \u201ckidnapper,\u201d \u201cembezzler\u201d and \u201cmurderer\u201d as the criminals found behind bars and then shows a mother jailed for serving alcohol to minors. <\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe WestConn video reflects the commitment to professionalism our students brought to the project,\u201d Assistant Communications Professor J.C. Barone said. \u201cThe message was very effective and the soundtrack and visuals packed a powerful punch. I was very grateful to see their hard work and talent recognized outside of the classroom in a way that helped the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>A second video by 2008 graduates Arjumond Khan and Ben Woodhouse came in first runner-up in July at a contest sponsored by The Scientist magazine. The 26-second video, which showed the time lapse of an amoeba\u2019s life cycle, was part of a senior research project. Calling it a \u201cgreat scientific video short,\u201d judges said the video earned recognition because the time-lapse \u201callowed a dramatic change to be more apparent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this video was selected because it elegantly and dynamically shows a complicated interaction between two organisms,\u201d said Professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences Dr. Frank Dye. \u201cIt is said that a picture is worth a thousand words.
