WCSU to host ‘Sunset Park’ director Jason Sarrey at film screening

DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will host a film screening of “Sunset Park” followed by a Q&A session with director and independent filmmaker Jason Sarrey from 1:40 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, in the Student Center Theater on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. This event is free and open to the public.

“Sunset Park,” the first feature film written, directed and produced by Sarrey, tells the story of a young boxer raised by his grandfather who is forced to take his fight outside the ring to stand up for what’s right and protect those he loves. Released in November 2017 in North America, the film already has received worldwide distribution in Europe and Asia including the Chinese market, making it one of the first indie films from the United States to gain a Chinese government license.

WCSU Professor of Communication and Media Arts JC Barone was contacted by Sarrey and his team to have “Sunset Park” screened at the university. “Aware of our vigorous media production program here at WCSU, Jason and his manager contacted me about screening his film here,” said Barone. “He also generously offered to do a Q & A after, something very beneficial to our students and budding indie filmmakers.”

For more information, contact the Barone at baronej@wcsu.edu or the Office of University Relations at (203) 837-8486.
