WCSU to host health, fitness and wellness fair

DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University Institute for Holistic Health Studies will host a Health, Fitness and Wellness Fair from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in the Bill Williams Gym in Berkshire Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. There will be multiple exhibitors from campus and the local area providing information and interactive exhibits, as well as students presenting their internship experiences for the IHHS. This event is free and open to the public.

Currently, 33 vendors are registered to present at the fair. Among other presentations, healthy food and giveaways, the vendors include: Cucumber and Chamomile with demonstrations of reflexology and reiki; doTERRA Essential Oils with lessons on how to integrate oils into a healthy lifestyle, accompanied by free hand massages; Murphy Family Chiropractic will present a postural and spinal alignment screening; The Patient Whisperers will provide group and individual relaxation hypnosis sessions; and Wells Valley Cat Rescue will present the benefits of being a cat owner as well bringing adoptable kittens to socialize.

IHHS Director Christel Autuori said, “The third annual Health, Fitness & Wellness Fair is hosted by the Institute for Holistic Health Studies, Campus Recreation, University Health Services, the Choices Office, Counseling Center and Department of Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences.  There will be a raffle, zumba and yoga demonstrations and massages available. Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to come and learn how to create and maintain the optimal health of the body, mind and spirit.”

As part of the IHHS degree, all students must complete a 450-hour internship. Students will present, via poster boards, their experiences at places such as Yale University, the Danbury Department of Health, Duracell, UCONN, Boehringer-Ingelheim and the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut.
