WCSU hosts Fourth Annual Media Arts Film Festival

DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will host its Fourth Annual Media Arts Film Festival at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, at the Student Center on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The competition was open to students from Art, Media Production, Communication and Digital and Interactive Media Arts departments. Admission is free and formal attire is requested. There will be refreshment and a cash bar for those over 21. The public is invited.

The festival is sponsored by the Broadcast Education Association Student Club and supported in part by the Department of Communication and Media Arts. Student awards can fall into 10 categories: Basic Video Production, Spots (30 second or less PSAs, commercials and promos), digital and interactive media, animation, scripts, broadcast news/talk, drama, documentary, best technical (sound and cinematography) and people’s choice, live during the show.

Submissions have been judged based on quality of content including technical and aesthetic excellence. The event will be judged by faculty members Professors of Communication and Media Arts Dr. JC Barone, Dr. Jackie Guzda, Paul Echeverria and Guy Perrotta; Professor of Art Catherine Vanaria; and BEA Student Club President Madisyn Mazik, Vice President Gabriella Payano and Treasurer Johanna Payano.

“Students and faculty look forward to this annual black tie event,” Barone said. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase the best student short films, animation and interactive 360-media.”
