WCSU resident students honored for academic achievement
Fifteen Western students with 4.0 GPAs recognized at campus ceremony

DANBURY, CONN. — Fifteen Western Connecticut State University students who have achieved 4.0 grade point averages during their studies at WCSU received special recognition at a recent ceremony sponsored by the university’s Office of Housing and Residence Life.

The 13th annual Academic Recognition Ceremony, held March 10 in the Westside Campus Center Ballroom on the university’s Westside campus in Danbury, honored all students with housing in WCSU residence halls who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students in attendance were introduced individually by the academic resource mentors for their respective residence halls, and received certificates from their hall resident directors.

The 15 resident students with a cumulative 4.0 GPA, equivalent to a straight-A average for all courses taken, received plaques recognizing their exemplary academic records. Students cited for 4.0 GPAs included: Shanyce Blanding, Maria Coronel and Allison Vas, all of Danbury; Kyle Simmons, of Bethel; Ariana Mesaros, of Bridgeport; Juliann Sima, of Cheshire; Lydia Walter, of East Haddam; Karina Escobar, of Milford; Monica Richard, of Naugatuck; Paul Ingham, of New Milford; Lauren Muller, of Norwalk; Eric Keller, of Stamford; Marlena Jerzyk and Elena Ramos, both of Waterbury; and Carly Neil, of Westbrook.

WCSU President James W. Schmotter, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Walter Bernstein and Director of Housing and Residence Life Ron Mason offered congratulatory remarks to student honorees and their invited guests. Dr. Charles Mullaney, professor and chair of the WCSU Division of Justice and Law Administration, delivered the keynote talk. Concluding remarks were given by Maribeth Griffin, director of residential programs and staff.
