WCSU art faculty to present ‘Creativity & Compassion’ exhibition

DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University department of art will present a faculty exhibition, “Creativity & Compassion,” to celebrate the historic visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the WCSU campus in October.

The exhibition will open on Thursday, Oct. 11, and will run through Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in the Gallery at Higgins Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The Higgins Gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. An opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 11. The reception and exhibition will be free and the public is invited.

The show will bring together the works of 24 full-time and adjunct art faculty members in a wide variety of media, including photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing and painting. Several works will be offered for purchase.

Terry Wells, chairman of the WCSU department of art, said this exhibition “showcases the creativity that is the core of who we are and what we do, as both practitioners and educators.”

Faculty participants include: Bob Alberetti, Vincent Baldassano, David Boyajian, Riley Brewster, Santo Bruno, Bruce Dunbar, Margaret Grimes, Chris Hartman, Jilaine Jones, Moira Kelly, Jurg Lanzrein, Joel Leneker, Ed Little, Sabrina Marques, Plonia Nixon, Fran Patnaude, Marjorie Portnow, Ken Scaglia, Michael Serao, Elyse Shapiro, David Skora, Jack Tom, Cathy Vanaria and Terry Wells.
