Aquila Theatre to perform ‘Sherlock Holmes’ at WCSU
DANBURY, CONN. — The Aquila Theatre Company will present an original adaptation of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” at Western Connecticut State University at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016. The performance will be in the MainStage Theatre of the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
Directed by Desiree Sanchez, with a stellar cast of British performers and original music by Joe Robinson, Aquila brings an energetic and physical style to this fast-paced production as Sherlock Holmes and trusted sidekick Dr. John Watson skillfully maneuver the twisted web of London’s most intriguing cases. Sanchez, the company’s artistic director since 2001, is a professional choreographer whose extensive dance career includes her tenure as a principal dancer for 20 years for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York.
Aquila, a nonprofit organization, has forged a collaboration this year with the university’s VPAC to rehearse and make technical preparations at Western. For the past 16 years, Aquila has been a leading producer of touring classical theatre, performing two major productions in approximately 50 to 60 communities across the country.
