Western honors Murphy as Entrepreneur of the Year

Dr. John Murphy, president and chief executive officer of the Western Connecticut Health Network, received the 2011 Macricostas Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Western at a luncheon held on Oct. 5, 2011.

Murphy, a neurologist and Newtown resident, joined the Danbury Hospital administration as executive vice president in 2008 and became the hospital’s president and CEO in July 2010. Danbury Hospital reached an affiliation agreement with New Milford Hospital in October 2010 to form Western Connecticut Healthcare, Inc. Western Connecticut Health Network was formed by Danbury and New Milford hospitals and their related organizations to organize a coordinated network of providers, services and health care sites designed to ensure delivery of “timely, convenient and appropriate care for each and every patient,” the network website noted.

Murphy was honored at a luncheon in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the WCSU Westside campus in Danbury. Funding for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award is provided by a grant from the foundation of Brookfield industrialist and philanthropist Constantine “Deno” Macricostas and his wife Marie.
