Different groups, genders, and identities have come up with their own flags over the years to bring awareness to their unique needs and experiences. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"image-credit content-lede-image-credit\"><\/div>\n<div><strong>Pink Triangle Flag<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-122 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/pridecenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2021\/07\/pinktriangle-e1626201653859-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"655\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/pridecenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2021\/07\/pinktriangle-e1626201653859-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/pridecenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2021\/07\/pinktriangle-e1626201653859.jpg 519w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This brightly colored symbol is now often worn proudly, but it was born from a dark period in LGBTQ history and world history.<\/p>\n<p>Just as the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear a yellow Star of David, they forced people they labeled as gay to wear inverted pink triangles (or \u2018die Rosa-Winkel\u2019). Those thus branded were treated as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/8905527\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cthe lowest of the low in the camp hierarchy,\u201d<\/a> as one scholar put it. It\u2019s thought that somewhere between 5,000 and 15,000 men were sent to concentration camps for reasons related to sexuality, but exactly how many died in them may never be known. For many, it&#8217;s seen as attraction to both men and women. Others use it to describe attraction to more than one gender, but not all genders. Some even describe it as attraction to the gender you identify as and at least one other gender.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pride.com\/bisexual\/2015\/5\/15\/6-facts-you-never-knew-about-bisexual-flag-yes-there-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.pride.com\/bisexual\/2015\/5\/15\/6-facts-you-never-knew-about-bisexual-flag-yes-there-one\">According to\u00a0<em>Pride<\/em><\/a>, this flag was created by activist Michael Page. He wanted to create a symbol for bisexual people to feel connected to.
