{"id":1553,"date":"2022-03-30T19:22:48","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T19:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/psychology\/?page_id=1553"},"modified":"2023-03-27T12:47:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T12:47:27","slug":"new-york-licensure","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/psychology\/new-york-licensure\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Licensure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">To become a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), you must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Be at least 18 years of age;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Have earned at least a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Be proficient in English, including the ability to speak, write, comprehend orally, and read at a minimum level necessary to perform as a CASAC;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Live or work in New York State at least 51 percent of the time during the application period;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Have two individuals complete an Evaluation of Competency and Ethical Conduct on your behalf. The Evaluation is based on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oasas.ny.gov\/credentialing\/casac-canon-principles\">CASAC Canon of Ethical Principles<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Document a minimum of 6,000 hours (approximately three years) of supervised, <a href=\"https:\/\/oasas.ny.gov\/casac-application-pds-11#page=22\">full-time equivalent work experience in an approved setting<\/a>;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Document completion of education and training consisting of a minimum of 350 clock hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Successfully complete a criminal background check review; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Pass\u00a0the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium, Inc.
