WCSU Reopening

To the WCSU Campus Community:

We acknowledge that concern about Covid-19 transmission has declined, and in turn we can enjoy relaxed guidelines on campus for the Fall 2022 semester.

All the colleges and universities in CSCU have shifted to a “mask-optional” protocol. However, mask-wearing remains an effective prevention strategy against the spread of the virus and other respiratory diseases, and we fully support and expect all employees and students to respect those who choose to continue wearing masks. Please note: no employee has the authority to require the use of masks by others.

Physical distancing restrictions have also been removed, and in-person events are now welcome on campus for both internal and external audiences. A full schedule of in-person courses, meetings, convenings, etc. is planned for this fall.

Vaccine requirements are suspended for students and employees. However, WCSU highly recommends our community members be up to date with all their vaccinations. Note: students in clinical or other practicum/internship sites may be required to be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing based on the rules of those employers. Complying with these requirements is the responsibility of the student and should be discussed with the program directors on campus.

Both residential and commuter students who test positive should stay at home. You will be directed to wear a mask when you return per CDC guidelines. We also recommend that residential students bring self-test kits to campus for use during the semester.

The university will no longer manage contact tracing or make notifications about potential exposure. All individuals will be responsible for managing notification of those who were in close contact with you.

Students who miss classes or activities due to a COVID diagnosis should contact their professors and coaches for specifics on how to proceed with any missed assignments or information.

For students who have symptoms, Health Services will make antigen testing available. The university will not provide additional PCR testing services as were available in past semesters. To locate a PCR test provider near you follow this link: https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus

Faculty and staff who test positive should notify Human Resources, and those who require accommodations related to COVID should also work with Human Resources.

We will continue to monitor conditions in the state and Fairfield County and will adjust protocols if warranted.
