ERIC ROMAN GRADUATE\u00a0<\/b><\/em>STUDENT AWARD IN HISTORY:<\/em>\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>VINCENT\u00a0<\/b>D.\u00a0<\/b>PISANO<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Awarded annually by the History Department faculty to a master\u2019s degree <\/span>candidate in history at WCSU, this prize recognizes outstanding academic <\/span>achievement. The award honors the late Dr. Eric Roman, longtime history <\/span>faculty member and coordinator of the history M.A. program.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

HISTORY HONOR SOCIETY AWARD:\u00a0 <\/b><\/em>LAUREN\u00a0<\/b>E.\u00a0<\/b>KERTON\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

History is both an art and a science. Majors in this discipline must learn not <\/span>merely to master information, but also to present it in a clear and readable style. <\/span>Each year the history faculty selects a student who has attained particular <\/span>distinction in this pursuit. The department confers a book or plaque in <\/span>recognition of the student\u2019s achievement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

THE HERBERT JANICK AWARD FOR B<\/b><\/em>EST ESSAY OR ARTICLE IN HISTORY:<\/em>\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>LAUREN\u00a0<\/b>E.\u00a0<\/b>KERTON<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This award honors the contributions of History Professor Emeritus Herbert <\/span>Janick, in recognition of excellence in student historical research and writing. <\/span>It is open to all undergraduate majors in history and students who received <\/span>their undergraduate degree in history in the previous academic year. To be <\/span>eligible for consideration, students may submit a research paper or essay of <\/span>at least 10 pages in length to the department chair,<\/span>\u00a0or a one-page description<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and link to a digital project with the Haas Library Archives, by March 1. In addition,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>papers accepted for publication in Clio, the department journal, for the current year<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>will be automatically eligible for\u00a0<\/span>consideration. Essays will be judged by a three-member<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>committee composed\u00a0<\/span>of History Department faculty.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

THE JOHN LEOPOLD AWARD FOR SERVICE TO HISTORY<\/em>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>MARINA\u00a0<\/b>F.\u00a0<\/b>CODDAIRE<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This award honors History Professor Emeritus John Leopold, in recognition of <\/span>excellence in student service to the department and university. It is open to all <\/span>undergraduate majors in history and students who received their undergraduate <\/span>degree in history in the previous academic year. Students may be nominated <\/span>for this award by faculty members in the History Department, other <\/span>departments, or by self-nomination. All nominees will be asked to complete <\/span>an application form. The award is based on student contributions to the <\/span>department or the university through leadership or participation in Student <\/span>Government Association-recognized organizations, through the development <\/span>of new organizations or activities of significant benefit to the department, and <\/span>through participation in history-related activities.
