Dr. Leslie Lindenauer, Professor of History, is giving students some control of the syllabus! Over the years, Dr. Lindenauer has interacted with students as she teaches an introductory course on American history. It satisfies a general education requirement and she has noticed that students enter her class with preconceived notions about history. To change the narrative about history classes, she asked her students during the first session how they like to learn, hobbies that interest them, and what they hate about history. The students participated in a game to promote learning but also have fun at the same time. Dr. Lindenauer has found that students are more engaged in the class when they help develop it. Dr. Jess Kraybill, Assistant Professor of Psychology, was elected as the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) Associate Chair position on the Committee on Teaching Awards. Among other duties, this committee facilitates the selection of STP teaching award winners by processing nominations, identifying reviewers for those nominations, and notifying award winners.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Award-winning novelists, poets and nonfiction authors read from and discuss their works during the Master of Fine Arts in Creative and Professional Writing winter residency in January at Western Connecticut State University. The evening series was presented as part of the winter residency for graduate students currently enrolled in the M.F.A. in Creative and Professional Writing program. Launched in 2005, the M.F.A. program at WCSU enables participants from across the nation to pursue master\u2019s degree studies in a diverse range of creative and professional writing genres through a comprehensive distance learning program complemented by summer and winter on-campus residencies. WCSU students, alongside Professor Farina and Dr. Bakhtiarova, traveled to Florence, Italy, for a short course abroad over winter intersession. Students earn 3 credits as well as a cultural immersion experience. In addition to staying in Florence, students travelled to Venice, Pisa, participated in cooking classes, and much more!
